What is Book & Collect?

Book & Collect, is a safe and contactless library service designed to provide our library members, access to library items, during the lockdown period.

How does it work?

Fill out our online web form, tell us what items you would like to borrow, and a library team member will bag up your items ready for you to collect.

How do I Book & Collect?

Online: Use the online order form on the Library website.

Email: Send an email to book&collect@whanganuilibrary.com and tell us what kinds of books you are interested in.

When do I pickup my items?

Once we have completed your order, we will contact you to arrange a time for you to come and collect your items.

How long will it take to get my bag?

We will turnaround orders as quickly as possible. There may be delays depending on the level of demand. We will contact you directly only when your order is ready to collect. Updates on how the service is running will be posted on Facebook.

How many items can I request for my bag?

We will fill 1 standard book bag. If you order more, and we can fit more items in, we will choose which items on your behalf. We will hold any excess items, to include in your next order.

When requesting items, how specific do I need to be?

Our library staff are experienced librarians, and they will do their very best to match your reading preferences. However, the more specific your request is, the more likely, we will select the right items for you. If you can, be specific.

What if the library team can’t find what I like?

We will try our best find the items you requested, if we can’t, we will let you know.

What are the pickup times?

10:00am to 4:00pm weekdays only.

Where are the pickup locations?

Pickups will be primarily from the Davis Library.

What are the Alert Level 3 safety restrictions for Book & Collect?

The main doors to the library will remain closed to the public during Alert Level 3. While the Book & Collect service is contactless we still require adherence to the Alert Level 3 safety restrictions. Please visit link for more information about Alert Level 3 Restrictions.

Customers will be encouraged to

  • Sign in using the NZ COVID Tracer app
  • Wear a face covering when picking up your items
  • Adhere to the 2 metre rule, which will be marked by signage tape
  • Select a nominated person from your bubble to pick up your bag of items

The contactless collection area

  • Customers will collect their items from the foyer of the Davis Library
  • The main doors to the library will remain closed during Alert Level 3
  • Collection times between customers will be staggering to encourage physical distancing
  • Library staff will keep records of every collection

Staff restrictions and safety

We will have a minimum number of staff working on the Book & Collect service. Our library staff members will adhere to strict COVID-19 hygiene practices and guidelines. Wearing face coverings when required, and using disposable gloves to handle customer orders.

Our staff are encouraged to:

  • Sign in using the NZ COVID Tracer app
  • Adhere to the physical distancing requirements
  • Have extra hygiene measures and practices
  • Regularly clean and disinfect shared surfaces
  • Wear a face covering if they are required to
