Overdue Fees

Any item borrowed from the Wanganui District Library that is returned later than the due date of issue is usually subject to an overdue fine. This policy is signalled to you at library registration. How much you will need to pay is determined by both the length of time the item has been overdue, and by the type of item it is.

All children’s books that have been issued on a child’s card are exempt from overdue fines. Children’s DVDs still incur a fine if overdue

So, How Does This Work in Practice? Your item's overdue, and you haven't renewed them?

Overdue fees are charged on a "daily, per item" basis. Please refer to the table below:

Item Type:

Overdue Fee:

Interloans $0.40 per day
Non-fiction, Biographies & Large Print $0.20 per day
Children's & Teenage Fiction & Magazines $0.20 per day
(Adult) Magazines $0.20 per day
(Music) Compact Discs $0.20 per day
Standard DVDs $0.40 per day

Express fiction & Non-fiction, Bestseller Magazines, Top20/40 CDs and TV Series DVDs

$0.40 per day
  • The overdue system is set-up this way to make it fairer on customers who may wish to retain their items for an extra day or two, but not pay a flat weekly fee to do so.

If you fail to return an item, we’ll send an invoice for costs to date, including item replacement. If there is no response to this action, we pass the responsibility on to our debt collector

Recent changes to Library Services & Fees

From 01 September 2017 the grace period for all overdue items will cease.

Do you have email? The library sends several automated reminders that your books & items are due. Have a chat with a member of the library team or email us at info@whanganuilibrary.com to discuss setting this up.

Did you know you can manage your account online? Suggest, request & renew books and other library items via our catalogue at whanganuilibrary.com. If you need a password to access this facility, please contact us for further assistance.

Keep your checkout slips. These are very handy for managing your due dates. Ask at the Help Desk if you are unsure when your items are due back or you'd like a new checkout slip.
